JTL was formed in 1989 by the Electrical Contractors' Association (ECA) and the Electrical Electronic and Plumbing Union (now Unite the Union) to manage training in the electrical sector. In 2000 JTL became a company limited by guarantee with charitable status. In 2001 the LSC and Association of Plumbing Contractors (APHC) approached JTL with a view to taking on plumbing apprentices and subsequently we grew significantly, expanding into a number of related areas.
Who we are
JTL is now the leading training provider to the building services engineering sector and the second largest work based learning provider in the country; supporting over 10,00 apprentices and over 3,500 employers.
JTL delivers more Advanced Apprenticeships than anyone else in the sector(around 75% of all electricians who qualify each year do so with our assistance), supporting apprentices in the following crafts:
At the heart of our growth has been the ability to deliver national standards through a regional structure which is focused on local delivery through the commitment and expertise of our 185 training officers.
As a charitable organisation, all income not directly spent on running the business is reinvested in the provision, development and continuous improvement of JTL's service to the industry.
Who we are
We are also strongly committed to encouraging equality and diversity across the sector, whilst our commitment to supporting learners ensures that Every Child Matters is embodied in everything we do.
We have been awarded Beacon Status for the quality of our training provision and continue to work to improve that quality year on year.
