How We Operate

WITH YOU EVERY STEP OF THE WAY

JTL manages training; this means we do not actually employ apprentices directly, they are employed as fully salaried members of your workforce. Their salary and associated employment costs are the main costs you incur, we fund their off-site training and on-site assessment.

What we do for employers and apprentices is:

  • Liaise with Government bodies, such as the Learning and Skills Council and the Welsh Assembly Government, to arrange apprenticeship funding.
  • Organise and co-ordinate off-the-job training with over 100 local training centres and colleges
  • Monitor and assess all on-site training through a structured programme that leads to an NVQ Level 3 qualification
  • Work with employers to provide the best possible candidates and deliver the training that meets the needs of their business, whilst ensuring that apprentices placed with them are in a safe working environment and receive appropriate supervision and on-the-job training

At the heart of what we do for apprentices are 185 local Training Officers, covering every postcode in England and Wales, who help co-ordinate everything for you from day one.

All are experienced and technically qualified industry professionals. Having worked in businesses like yours, they appreciate what you need from an apprentice. Crucially they were once in the shoes of the apprentice so they know what it is really like and understand what it takes for them to be successful and have a positive input to your business.

Their role is to be the link between you, our partner college and your apprentice to make sure that they achieve their final goal – an NVQ level 3 - and that your business benefits financially from the efforts of your apprentice.

JTL will help you to recruit a suitable young person. Once you have selected an apprentice, your Training Officer will set up their college course, arrange funding and take you through a pre-placement assessment to ensure you are able to meet your legal obligations under Health & Safety legislation and take care of all the necessary paperwork.

Throughout the apprenticeship your Training Officer is the link between your business, the college and your apprentice. They continually monitor all college based training and conduct on-the-job training reviews and assessments to make certain your apprentice is progressing appropriately.

Their objective is to ensure that you both gain enormously from the experience and achieve a positive end result - a member of staff qualified to NVQ Level 3, who has been fully trained in the practices of your company and makes a real contribution to your bottom line.

Your Training Officer will have one simple objective. To provide you with long-term career opportunities and do whatever is necessary – supporting you, assessing you, advising you, even cajoling and pushing you when it's needed – to make sure you make the best of your opportunities and work towards a successful career.
