Peter The Pick Of North West Apprentices
A JTL North West electrical apprentice from Colne in Lancashire has won the regional heat of a national electrical industry competition - the ECA Edmundson Apprentice of the Year Award. Peter Robinson, who is 22 and is undertaking the JTL Advanced Apprenticeship with electrical contracting firm Robinson & Lawlor Ltd, fought off hundreds of hopefuls from across the region to win the title of North West Edmundson Apprentice of the Year. The Apprentice of the Year Award is presented every year and recognizes apprentices throughout England, Wales and Northern Ireland that have attained a high standard of academic and technical competence within the electrical profession. Peter was presented with his award, together with a cheque for £500 and an electrical testing kit, by Edmundson Electrical Regional Director Craig Partington, at Robinson & Lawlor’s offices in Nelson. To be short listed for the award, Peter had to gain a high-grade result in the City & Guilds examination for electrical work, and a mark above 95 percent in the industry skills test. He then faced a regional interview, and subsequently was one of only a handful of candidates from all over the UK selected to appear in front of a final judging panel. Steven Robinson, Managing Director of Robinson & Lawlor Ltd and father of Peter, couldn’t be more proud of his son. He said: “During his apprenticeship Peter has worked on commercial projects all over the UK, from the South African Consulate in Whitehall through to Morrison’s stores in Dundee – he applies the same intelligence and work ethic to all which I’m sure is something the judges picked up on. I’m very proud of Peter both personally and professionally.” John Cramphorn, JTL Regional Manager for the North West, added: “JTL prides itself on training apprentices, for the benefit of the industry, to a high standard and is delighted that Peter has been recognised for his hard work and commitment to his apprenticeship. It is a testament not only to Peter, but to all apprentices who make a valuable contribution to the industry.”
