Quick Facts About JTL

JTL is the main training provider to the building services engineering sector and offers LSC (Learning and Skills Council) funded Advanced Apprenticeships (AA) in electrical installation, plumbing and engineering maintenance, heating and ventilating and motor rewind. The training provided by JTL is approved by the industry and the Government and leads to a National Vocational Qualification at Level 3.

JTL sets the highest national standards, covering the whole country. Through a regional network operating in 10 regions across England and Wales, JTL delivers for employers and apprentices at a local level.

All of JTLs 185 Training Officers are technically qualified in the electrical and plumbing sectors, meaning they have the benefit of directly relevant experience when assessing and verifying the progress of apprentices on site and at college.

As one of the top three work based training providers in the country, JTL has registered charity status - a key differentiator that sets it aside from other providers. All resources are reinvested back into the industry for the benefit of apprentices and employers.

JTL works strategically with a number of leading bodies in the industry including the Sector Skills Council for the electrotechnical and plumbing sectors, SummitSkills, and the awarding bodies, City & Guilds and EAL. It is recognised by the industry as the sector preferred training provider and engages with a network of around 150 of the UKs colleges.

JTL was jointly established by the Electrical Contractors Association (ECA) and Unite the Union, previously Amicus in 1990. It was initially developed to provide Advanced Apprenticeships (AA) in electrical installation, before extending its remit across the whole of the building services engineering industry. Now in its 18th year, JTL has experienced tremendous growth receiving over approximately 30,000 applicants and placing around 3,000 apprentices each year.

The JTL apprenticeship schemes are open to young people between the ages of 16 to 24 and are an ideal entry route into the industry for those starting out and looking for a career. The AA allows them to develop practical on-the-job experience, earn as they learn and achieve a highly regarded qualification.

As part of its ongoing commitment to delivering best practice, JTL strives to ensure that the industry recognises the need to embrace equality and diversity. With this in mind, it has developed a number of ongoing projects to increase participation by minority groups.
