Commitment
PRE-PLACEMENT VETTING
JTL takes it's responsibilities to apprentices very seriously and is committed to ensuring their safety is paramount at all times.
All employers of JTL apprentices must comply with the requirements of current Health and Safety legislation and codes of practice.
Before a young person can begin their apprenticeship with their employer a qualified JTL representative will visit the employer and conduct an extensive review, or 'Pre-placement Vetting', to make sure that your son or daughter is being placed with a company that takes their training and health and safety seriously. If they do not match up to our standards then your child will not be allowed to proceed on their apprenticeship with them.
When talking to employers your child needs to let them know that we will need do this before we can obtain funding for them. Their Training Officer will be able to give them and the employer all the advice they need.
The sort of things we will be looking for are:
Registration with HSE or Local Authority (unless working from a domestic premises)- Employers' Liability Insurance (minimum of £5m)
- Public Liability Insurance (minimum of £1m)
- A Safety Policy
- A Fire Certificate (if required) and Fire procedures
- Risk Assessments
- First Aid procedures
- An Accident Book
- Provision of Personal Protective Equipment (free of charge)
So that we are certain that your client will be safe throughout their apprenticeship, their employer will also be required to:
- Carry out a medical on all apprentices to ensure they are fit enough to do the job
- Provide apprentices with a Health and Safety induction
- Carry out all necessary risk assessments to ensure all steps are taken to reduce the risk of anything untoward happening to an apprentice
- Have procedures in place to report any accidents to JTL.
