Initial Assessment

LEARNING THE THEORY

As part of their JTL apprenticeship your son or daughter will be required to attend a course of training at a JTL approved college or training centre. Their Training Officer and employer will discuss where with them - look at the College Locator on this site to get an idea where it might be - and then their Training Officer will organise their place with the college.

There will be paperwork to complete, referred to as their START DOCUMENTS. It is important that this is all completed, as it is essential to obtain funding from the government for their training. However, don’t worry, as their Training Officer will make sure that it all gets sorted out properly.

College usually starts between September and October. Depending on how their local college organises their training , your son or daughter will either attend in several blocks of around two weeks or day release throughout the year. Again, don't worry as their Training Officer will organise and monitor all of this for them.

In the first weeks of their attendance at college all apprentices will undergo a comprehensive induction programme covering areas such as Health & Safety and Equality & Diversity.

They will also have their Key Skills assessed to determine what if any support hey will need during their college studies.
