JTL - Delivering Skills For Young People

The next stage of the application process is to take the JTL Initial Assessment. This has been designed and developed by the Basic Skills Agency and will demonstrate whether a candidate has the potential to successfully complete their JTL apprenticeship.

The assessment is in two parts to assess candidates numeracy and literacy.

Candidates need to pass both papers at the same time. Only two attempts at the assessment are permitted in any one academic year. So, if they don’t pass both literacy and numeracy at their first attempt, they are only allowed one re-sit, when they must again take and pass both papers.

Once they have successfuly completed the JTL Assessement your son or daughter will be placed on the JTL Approved Candidate List.

We will contact your son or daughter when an Initial Assessment session has been arranged to take place in your local area and invite them to attend. These assessments usually take place between February and August in each academic year. Candidates must make every to attend, it’s an important part of the application process. If your son or daughter can’t, for any reason, contact us on 0800 0852 308. If they don’t attend and don’t tell us, it may be classed as one failed attempt.

If your child has certain learning difficulties we can provide them with some support when they take their Initial Assessment. However, they must tell us about their needs before they attend so that we have time to arrange suitable support.
