PAT Testing (C&G)

A qualification for anyone who intends to carry out the in-service inspection and testing of electrical equipment (also known as PAT Testing). The Electricity at Work Regulations 1989 state 'as may be necessary to prevent danger, all systems shall be maintained so as to prevent, so far as is reasonably practicable, such danger'. The course will train personnel that are responsible for the scheduling of PAT testing, as well as the practical application of portable appliance tests, which includes visual inspections and instrument tests. This course is based on the updated Code of Practice for the In-service Inspection & Testing of Electrical Equipment (IET 4th Edition).

Pre-requisites:
Minimum age - 18
It would be expected that candidates attending the course should be familiar with electrical systems and hazards of electricity in order to satisfactorily complete this programme.

Course Content

  • The Law and the scope of the legislation
  • Training for competence
  • Electrical equipment, including the  instruments
  • In-service inspection and testing, inspection and recording of equipment
  • Combined inspection and testing
  • Documentation and labelling

Assessment

Open online multiple choice examination, and a separate practical assessment in the use of portable appliance testers, to test an item or items of equipment.

Qualification: C&G Level 3 Award in the In-Service Inspection & Testing of Electrical Equipment.
