WHAT DO EMPLOYERS LOOK FOR AND EXPECT

"I've been recruiting apprentices for a number of years now and was myself a apprentice, as was my son who works with me running our family business.
When recruiting a new apprentice, I'm looking for someone who can demonstrate to me that they are committed to both the company and their apprenticeship. It's a four-year process from start to completion and there's no point in taking someone on if you don't think they'll make it past the first year. They also have to have a willingness to learn, as they will be required to absorb a lot of information during the course of their training - both at college and on site with their supervisor.
An apprenticeship can be an ideal platform to a great career and future - but you only get there by working hard. At the end of the day, you'll get out of it what you put into it and if you're prepared to graft, it can take you anywhere you want it to - including running your own business."
