Looking for a job?
Preparing a CV
To impress an employer and get an interview you will need to prepare a CV.
What you'll need:
- A PC, if you don't have one use a friends, schools, colleges or try your Connexions Centre or local library.
- A record of the dates you were at school/college and all your qualifications.
- Details of any work experience you've had and whether the employer will give you a reference.
- Details of any personal references you can get.
- Details about the job and company you are applying for so that you can tailor your CV to match their requirements.
What To Do
Before writing your own CV look at examples of others, through friends and family or online. Make sure that your CV is:
- Typed clearly - keep it simple in black print on white paper with an easy to read font like Ariel 12.
- Logical - start with your name and address, then school/college and then any work experience.
- Accurate - check it several times for spelling mistakes and whether it makes sense.
- Concise - keep it short - 2 pages max.
- Be honest in your CV and don't lie - you'll have to prove what you've written in your interview so it will come out!
