College delivers first CompEx Gas & Vapour assessment

C&P Engineering Services Ltd/Gower College near Swansea, has been successfully licensed to deliver the CompEx Ex01-04/Ex01-04 Refresher modules following a successful Centre Licensing visit by JT Limited.

John Harris, CompEx Field Officer, has completed a visit to centre number 56 and witnessed the first Ex01-04 Gas & Vapour assessments taking place: I’m impressed by the dedication and hard work of both C&P/GC in developing the Ex01-04 bays to a high standard. C&P are bringing their wealth of hazardous area experience to bear in partnership with the excellent learning environment that Gower College offers.”

Over two days JT Limited has conducted a rigorous External Quality Assurance examination of the centres Instruction and Assessment facilities, Quality Management systems and centre administration process, and has concluded that the C&P/Gower College centre has met the criteria to be granted a License to deliver Ex01-04 & Ex01-04 Refresher modules.

Rab Hanney - CompEx Assessor 102 - is mentoring the centre’s assessment staff: “For a new centre, I have been very impressed by the professional way the staff conducted the instruction and have built a fantastic assessment facility. It has been a pleasure to mentor the assessors and I’m sure they will be a credit to the CompEx family.”

CompEx is the only Certification Body that offers UKAS accredited certification for personnel who work in explosive atmospheres. This certification validates the core competency of practitioners working in explosive atmospheres. It also offers complete reassurance to employers managing the safety of these potentially hazardous workplaces and can provide the added benefit by assisting employers reduce their insurance costs.

Since its inception, CompEx has certificated over 72,000 candidates in the Gas & Vapour modules, the Dust, Fuel, Water, Mechanical modules and the Application Design Engineer Modules and Responsible Persons Module.  CompEx is currently certificating in excess of 9,000 electro-technical, mechanical crafts persons and engineers a year. This has had a direct impact on improved safety in the workplace.

The course includes specific knowledge and practical assessments based upon the International Electrotechnical Commission IEC 60079 Parts 14 & 17 standards. Upon successful completion, candidates receive a CompEx Certificate of Core Competency for the modules in which they have achieved the required standard. Each certificate is valid for a period of 5 years, depending on changes to International, European and British Standards.

There is an international network of licensed CompEx centres around the world that develop candidates’ knowledge and provide a robust assessment programme in line with CompEx standards.
