JIB Overseas Apprentice Exchange Scheme 2015

09 January 2015     JTL

How would you like to spend a six-week, fully-paid-for-trip to New York to work, study, explore and learn about how your industry does things overseas?

The JIB along with JTL is running the Overseas Apprentice Exchange Scheme representing the UK, the USA and Australia in 2015. During the summer, one JTL apprentice will get the chance of a lifetime to travel and work in New York, an apprentice from New York will visit Australia, while an Australian counterpart will visit the UK.

The successful candidate will:

  • travel to New York on May 31st 2015
  • spend six weeks studying and working with a reputable, established employer in New York
  • have all costs met by the JIB, except for personal spending
  • stay in accommodation organised by the JIB
  • write a regular blog describe your experiences and what you have learnt from working abroad

To be eligible you must be a JTL apprentice at Stage 3 or Stage 4, working for a JIB member (who is also a member of the ECA), and will need to be a member of Unite the Union.

Application forms will be sent to all eligible JTL apprentices in early January.  The deadline for entries is Friday 6th February 2015.  Please post your application form to:

Sarah Brocklehurst,

JTL, Stafford House, 120-122 High Street, Orpington, Kent, BR6 OJS

If you would like to download an application form you can do so.

Can you follow in his footsteps? Our last UK exchange student was Thomas Hyland from Cumbria, who successfully completed his electrical apprenticeship with Balfour Beatty Engineering Services in 2013, went on to scoop the coveted title of Best Apprentice for the North West at the JTL Regional Awards in October, and then headed off to Australia for his six-week exchange in November!
