Final-year apprentice and JTL Ambassador Samantha Jones has been named the winner of this year's JIB Overseas Apprentice Exchange Scheme.

The 25-year-old, from Gloucestershire, is employed by Melvin John Electrical in Coleford, but come May, as part of the JIB programme, she will fly out to the United States to spend six weeks living and working in New York. Her trip will give her the opportunity to learn how electrical contracting works "Stateside", and allow her to act as an ambassador for the industry here in the UK.

To claim her place in the USA, Samantha beat off competition from five other shortlisted applicants, all of whom took part in a challenging interview. The judges commented on her preparation, confidence and existing commitment to promoting the industry as the skills that set her aside from her peers.

"I am very much looking forward to my new overseas ambassador role", Samantha said after being given the good news. " experience travelling to another country, to work in a different environment, to experience the differences in work ethic, training and installation methods and to bring back positive and negative feedback, which could help the industry standards in this country.

"It’s also going to be very interesting to see at what level women are engaged within the electrical industry.”
