JTL and Klein Tools announce major partnership

18 June 2015     JTL

Thanks to a new partnership announced today, anyone who starts an electrical apprenticeship with JTL will receive a free, fully-stocked toolkit worth £250. This comes thanks to investment estimated to be worth £1 million over five years by American manufacturer Klein Tools, and its UK distributor Super Rod.

The deal is hoped to further boost the appeal of engaging electrical apprentices in England and Wales through the country’s major training provider, JTL.

Starting in September 2015, all new JTL electrical apprentices will receive a fully-stocked Klein toolkit worth £250 for free. The toolkit will cover all of the major requirements for a young person starting a career as an electrician, and at the same time save their employer from needing to make this investment.

JTL have been working with Monument Tools to provide toolkits for plumbing apprentices since 2013, but this partnership represents the first time that such a deal has been agreed for electrical kits.

Each of the toolkits the electrical apprentices will receive will include the following:

  • Diagonal cutting pliers
  • Heavy-duty Torpedo Level
  • 7.5m tape
  • 2 Driver set
  • Adjustable spanner

The starter toolkit comes in a Klein branded Tote Bag and will be made available each January following the traditional September intake. As a prelude to this exciting offer, Klein Tools and Super Rod are providing full tooling requirements at JTL’s training centres in Birmingham, Norwich and Tankersley, at an estimated sponsorship value of £30,000.

“We are delighted to be working with Klein Tools, which is a real quality American brand, already well-regarded by the electrical trades in North America,” said Jon Graham, Chief Executive of JTL.

“Our recruitment of new apprentices this year is already very strong and this new partnership provides an even clearer appreciation of why employers should want to make JTL their favourite apprenticeship training provider.”

As a family business, Klein Tools has taken a keen interest in expanding its presence in the UK market. This is reflected in President Mark Klein attending a special launch event at the JTL National Centre of Excellence in Birmingham today (Thursday 18 June 2015), where he will be joined by others who will include trustees and directors of the JTL charitable company.

Klein commented: “With both a family and company legacy going back to 1857, we recognise the roll played by training organisations like JTL. We are proud to enter into this sponsorship agreement and look forward to working together to drive our industry forward for many years to come.”

Malcolm Duncan, of Super Rod, also praised the collaboration between the organisations.

“We see this partnership with JTL as leading to many mutual benefits for our two organisations, as well as electricians who entered the trade through the consistently good work being completed by the JTL team,” he said.

“The JTL reputation for apprenticeship success rates that exceed the national average and the quality of the Klein Tools products makes a fantastic fit, and we are pleased to be playing our part in ensuring that the best opportunities of qualification and achievement will continue to ensure that British electricians are considered to be among the best in the world”, Duncan added.
