JTL launches free digital courses to support the changing needs of electricians

Smart Technologies

JTL is supporting the changing needs of electricians with the launch of two new free, bite-size digital courses, which focus on smart technologies as part of its ongoing Power Up offering – JTL’s new initiative to further support the building services engineering sector by offering free advice and educational resources.

With an estimated £11 billion being spent on smart home devices in 2019, and a further £1.6 billion required to meet electrical vehicle charging point demands in ten years’ time, JTL is championing the importance of electricians acquiring the skills needed to take advantage of these new markets. As a result, JTL has created two new taster courses on ‘EV Charging Points’ and ‘Smart Homes’, which are aimed at existing qualified electricians, as well as the next generation of apprentices coming though into the industry.

The bite-size EV Charging Points course provides an overview of electric vehicles and electric vehicle charge points – outlining what is required for safe, compliant electrical vehicle charge point installation. After completing the Smart Homes taster course, industry professionals will have a well-rounded understanding of smart home technologies and how moving into this new market can benefit them from both a business and financial point of view.

Liam Sammon, Director of Learning and Innovation at JTL, said: “As a charity, we are always looking at ways we can support the changing needs of electricians, so we are really excited to reveal our latest free bite-size courses on smart technologies. These taster courses will give industry professionals an understanding of what skills they need to stay ahead of the curve, and learn about new technologies and the opportunities they present.

“What we’ve learnt during lockdown is the importance of gaining new skills and how we can acquire them online. This is why JTL has developed Power Up – a series of free, open to all, bite-size online courses to remind trade professionals of the skills they already have and to give a taster of new skills needed. Built for mobile phones and tablets, each course can be completed at your own pace, full of videos, interactive games and text, which will steer the individual to further training, should this be of interest.”

The EV Charging Points and Smart Homes bite-size digital courses on now available on JTL’s new online learning portal. For more information on Power Up and to access the full suite of Toolbox resources, including business tips, technical advice and industry news, visit jtltraining.com/Toolbox
