JTL National Awards 2014 winners announced

26 February 2015     JTL
Each of the winners should be immensely proud of their achievements - it’s no mean feat being selected as one of our finalists, let alone an overall category winner.

Those were the words of JTL Chairman Dr Ian Livsey, following the organisation’s 20th annual National Awards ceremony in London yesterday.

Drapers’ Hall was the venue as JTL announced its top performers of the year at the ceremony, with the top prize of the event being awarded to Zak Gates, electrical apprentice from IC Electrical, West Midlands; the 22-year-old scooping the prestigious title of “JTL National Apprentice of the Year”.

In addition to this award, the “Plumbing Apprentice of the Year” and “Employer of the Year”, JTL introduced new categories for the 2014 ceremony, including “Best Performance in a Traineeship programme” and “Best Short Course Performance”.

The finalists, who gathered from across England and Wales to discover who had won the coveted trophies, were all subject to a rigorous selection process. The apprentices in contention for the Best Apprentice prizes had each previously won the top award in their regions to qualify for their place at the final. At each stage there were tested on their practical and theoretical knowledge and interviewed by members of JTL’s senior management team.

The winners of each category were:

JTL National Apprentice of the Year – Zac Gates, I C Electrical Ltd

JTL National Apprentice of the Year runner-up (Highly Commended) - Martin McNiven, Pennine Environmental Services Ltd

JTL National Plumbing Apprentice of the Year – James Ransom, Kent Eco Homes

JTL Employer Commitment to Training Award – Derry Building Services Ltd

JTL Best National Traineeship Performance – Jonathan Evans, Interserve Engineering Services Ltd

JTL Best Short Course Performance – Karl Schmidt, Derbyshire Community Health Services

JTL Best Performance on an Institute of Learning and Management Programme – Paul Joyce, EMCOR Facilities Services

JTL Employee Recognition Award – Leon Polkey, JTL Training Officer, Yorkshire and North East region

Dr Ian Livsey, Chairman of JTL, said: “Each of the winners should be immensely proud of their achievements - it’s no mean feat being selected as one of our finalists, let alone an overall category winner.

“We wish them all many congratulations and the best of luck with their future careers.”
