JTL is pleased to announce the opening of its latest dedicated training centre. With a brand new and fully equipped electrical workshop, our York centre has been designed to offer top-quality training to electrical apprentices in the York and wider North Yorkshire area.
This facility is the latest in a string of dedicated centres and joint ventures JTL has launched in the last few years. JTL now has its own centres operating successfully in Birmingham, Tankersley, Norwich, Oxford, Yeovil, Orpington, Maidstone, Ashford, Preston, Carlisle and Langley Mill in Nottinghamshire – and of course now in York.
JTL has invested £500,000 in its newest training facility, located in the Osbaldwick area of York, close to the A64 southern ring road and just ten minutes from York’s main train station.
This new centre offers 6,000 sq. ft. of teaching and workshop space over two floors. It comprises two modern teaching rooms, a meeting room, a refectory area and bright, modern double height workshops. A shared but limited car park space is avaialble amongst staff and apprentices and a secure and covered cycle store.
There will be an open day at the new Centre on 18th of October where potential apprentices and local employers can drop in and see the centre for themselves. It’s an opportunity to see the facilities and talk to JTL’s team to find out more about the wide range of opportunities available to young people and employers in the York and north Yorkshire area.
Regional Business Manager for Yorkshire and the North East, Jackie Rankin, said: “We are delighted to be here in York and the welcome we have received already has been very rewarding and clearly shows there is an appetite for the kind of training we offer here in the city and the surroundings areas.
“At present, we are planning to run electrical apprenticeships on a block release, delivering the necessary training over three years. The full apprenticeship remains as four years – but delivering block release training works particularly well for companies that work away from their base.
“We currently have one second year group and one third year group ready to work from this centre from 1 September and we’re actively recruiting for a new first year group of twenty apprentices to start as well.
“We’ve been recruiting apprentices across the Yorkshire and North East region for many years and it may come as no surprise to you to hear that recruitment has improved since we announced the opening of this centre.
“It’s important that employers recognise that we also consider this centre as their centre. Our open invitation to them to visit and see what we do is intended to give them the opportunity to help us develop training to reflect the skills and attitudes that they see as important, as we develop their future employees.”
