JTL winners at CEF Live announced

JTL had a highly successful time at CEF Live at the NEC recently, with the Challenge Zone initiative on their stand seeing both qualified electricians and apprentices competing for top prizes.

JTL ran a Challenge Zone on both the Thursday and Friday of the show – for significant prizes – on the Thursday there was a £500 CEF shopping spree up for grabs for the winning contractor representative and on the Friday there was £1,000 in CEF vouchers up for grabs by the college whose team won the challenge that was running all day on the stand.

The Thursday Challenge saw the fastest electrical engineer to wire a plug and light up a lamp winning the prize. Sounds easy? But it was down to clarity of mind and dexterity of action on the day!

The Friday Challenge saw the three best college teams of apprentices who pre-qualified for the event taking each other on in a series of electrical tasks with the winners walking off with the prize. It was a ‘crystal maze’ type challenge, to take on curriculum aligned tests across 3 zones, testing electrical skills, mental and physical ability with each task timed and the quickest overall team being the winner.

The progress of each team could be watched on three big screens on the stand as they took each other on for the prize.

The winning electrical engineer on the Thursday was Rich Sumner from Brigstowe Electrical with branches in Bath and Bristol, who managed to complete the task successfully in just one minute and 47 seconds!

The winning apprenticeship team on the Friday was the team from JTL’s own Aldercar Training Centre, near Nottingham.

The team’s spokesperson was Will Gibbs:

“It was a tough challenge and it was great watching these young people doing their best to win the challenge and the prize that went with it! They were quietly confident of winning but were up against two good groups, so they were always under pressure, but very pleased to come out winners at the end of the day!”

The team was delighted to be presented with its prize by celebrity electrician from the DIY SOS TV programme, Billy Byrne, who took a great interest in all the apprentices taking part in the challenge.

JTL is best known for being the leading provider of electrical apprenticeships in England and Wales but also provides training courses for qualified electricians and individuals who work in the industry but who did not complete their qualifications. Many visitors made their way to the JTL stand to find out what JTL could offer them - with many surprised at the breadth of training available from the company, either at one of their centres across the UK or at their own place of work.
