New training centre opens at JTL HQ in Orpington

28 January 2016     JTL

We are delighted to announce that JTL has now opened its fourth dedicated training centre, to add to those in Birmingham, Norwich and South Yorkshire.

The new facility is located alongside the company’s headquarters in Orpington, Kent and was officially opened in front of more than fifty guests by local MP Jo Johnson on 22 January 2016 in the presence of the Mayor of Bromley Borough, Councillor Kim Botting.

Following a significant investment, the new centre, previously a bed shop, provides training facilities for electrical apprentices with a capacity to provide training for 250 learners. There are three new cohorts starting in February 2016 – a further 100 learners to add to the more than 6,000 that we are currently progressing through their apprenticeships across England and Wales.

These apprentices will provide a steady stream of additional footfall to Orpington’s bustling High Street, with students in the first cohort coming from as far afield as Bedfordshire to use the new training facility.

As well as providing the highest quality facilities for apprentices, the new training centre will also be used for traineeships – pre-apprenticeship programmes for 16-18 year olds to furnish them with improved work-readiness - and there are additional classrooms too where short courses will be taught to existing professionals in both technical and wider business skills.

Chief Executive Jon Graham welcomed all the guests to the opening and gave a brief overview of JTL, now in business for more than 25 years, and one of the UK's leading providers of work-based learning, together with news of our exciting expansion plans for the rest of 2016 and beyond.

Jo Johnson MP then highlighted the importance of apprenticeships to the UK and welcomed the new centre in his constituency: “The Government is committed to raising the quantity and quality of apprenticeships, to address the skills gap and meet the need for qualified electricians and other tradesmen that are so vital to this country’s on-going success,” he said.
