Wales best apprentices battle it out

29 October 2014     JTL

The Celtic Manor Resort will see the six best apprentices in the region’s building services engineering sector come together on Thursday 6th November to celebrate their successes. One will leave with the title ‘JTL Wales Apprentice of the Year 2014’ to add to their already lengthy list of achievements.

The six candidates are Michael O’Donovan from Henllys, James Couzens from Whitland, Sean Davies from Llanfrechfa, Simon Grainger from Pontypridd, Samantha Allen from Bridgend and Kieran Jones from Cardiff. All are apprentice electricians, with the exception of Samantha and Kieran, who are studying to become plumbers.

Each of the finalists – all in the final stages of their four year JTL apprenticeship - were put forward for the hard-fought title by JTL’s Regional Training Officers, thanks to exceptional classroom work, outstanding practical abilities and excellent feedback from their employers. Both on-the-job and academic skills were monitored and tested in a series of assessments. The potential candidates also attended formal interviews with members of the JTL senior management team before a final shortlist was selected.

Whoever claims first place in Wales will be put forward for the title of ‘JTL National Apprentice of the Year’. The overall winner will be announced at an awards ceremony held at Drapers’ Hall in the City of London on 25 February 2015.
