Youngsters learn about apprenticeships with JTL at Rock FM

JTL teamed up with Lancashire-based radio station Rock FM during National Apprenticeship Week 2015 to help young people find out more about the opportunities work-based learning has to offer.

As part of this year's National Apprenticeship Week activities, on Thursday 12 March 2015, JTL went into Rock FM's station headquarters in Preston, along with 15 young ladies from three schools in the local area. The youngsters were all Year Nine pupils, accompanied by teachers from their schools, while JIB Chief Executive Steve Brawley was also present, as well as a number of staff from JTL's North West team, including Regional Business Manager John Cramphorn, Assistant Regional Manager Ray Brown, Engagement Officer Jean Hessey and Training Officer Jeff Chambers.

Adele Walsh, a third year JTL electrical apprentice, also came along and got involved, as well as representatives from local JTL employer Imtech.

Throughout the day, as well as a tour of the radio station's facilities and speeches from some of the senior figures present, the youngsters present were given the opportunity to find out more about apprenticeships, and were given the task of creating some exciting material of their own. Split up into groups, this included interviewing the likes of Steve Brawley and Adele Walsh about what their roles entail, and putting together radio shows, adverts and jingles about apprenticeships and why young people should be interested in them.

Given the chance to put their imaginations to work and explore their creative sides, the pupils made use of the information provided about apprenticeships and JTL to put together some great, interesting content, helped by Rock FM staff and those present from JTL and the other organisations.

The day was a great success, and the young people had a great time, leaving with much better ideas of what opportunity work-based learning may have to offer.
